I'm making good progress on "Still Room", 16"x20", oil on linen. Some parts are not oiled out yet so they appear lighter with that hazy sheen that paint gets because I don't like to use medium. I'm happy with the way it's going so far and I wish I had completed the little background interior but the lights only good in the morning so I'll have to wait until next week. Too bad, because I'm really excited to blast that background in and see how the whole thing holds together.

Progress Shots
I painted the poster study of Victoria at my portrait group session. Then when I got home I transferred my drawing to a canvas and did a rub in. I feel like I've got a better handle on my flesh palette this time then my last portrait. The still life is coming along and some subtle changes are starting to happen in my work. I'm not sure what they mean but I'm digging them so I'm letting things progress naturally.

Andre (figure painting)
This is as far as I'm going to be able to get on this painting. It was nine three hour sessions and I had to miss one. I decided to skip the portrait and focus on the torso. I relied heavily on the poster to keep me on track as I windowshaded my way across the form. I'm a little bummed that I didn't get to do more as I think was turning out to be one of my finest paintings. I got a little glimpse of what's possible though and I'm psyched to do more! My instructor at GCA really opened my eyes to the color possibilities and I'm hoping that I'll be able to spot just as much color nuance in a lighter skinned model.
